Principal's Message

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward!

-Holy Bible

St. Stephen’s Hospital College of Nursing, one of the oldest nursing institutions in the country, traces its beginnings to the year 1908. It functions under the aegis of St. Stephen’s Hospital, our parent institution, which was established in 1885 and stands today as one of the oldest and most respected hospitals in India. Our hospital is an NABH-accredited, tertiary care, super specialty healthcare institution guided by the motto, “In Love Serve One Another,” a principle that continues to inspire both patient care and nursing education.

The Nursing School initially commenced with a ‘B’ Grade Nursing course, which was later upgraded to an ‘A’ Grade Diploma programme. In 2008, the School of Nursing was elevated to the status of a College of Nursing, and B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing programme was introduced in affiliation with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Today, our College offers a comprehensive range of programmes including GNM, B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, and M.Sc. Nursing. All courses are duly recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the Delhi Nursing Council.

Over more than a century, St. Stephen’s Hospital has produced some of the finest nurses in the country. Many alumni serve with distinction in our own hospital and college, while a large number are employed in reputed institutions across India and abroad. Students receive rich and diverse clinical exposure in the parent hospital and gain community health experience through our own Community Health Department at Sunder Nagari. In addition, they are posted to various external institutions as required by the curriculum, ensuring comprehensive professional training.

Life at the College is a harmonious blend of academics and extracurricular activities, aimed at the all-round development of students. The Alumni section of our College website is filled with heartfelt reflections from former students, which serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for both faculty and current learners.

The College has earned notable recognitions in recent years. It has been ranked No. 1 in North India and No. 2 nationally by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF). It also received the “Best Nursing College of the Year Award 2025” from Academic Insights Magazine. The institution has consistently secured ‘A’ Grade certification from the Joint Assessment Committee (JAC) of the Department of Higher Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, as well as from the State Fee Regulatory Committee (SFRC). Further, the College was honoured with the prestigious A+ (Gold) Grade in the DESC 2025 initiative, the highest recognition for excellence in sustainability and social responsibility among higher education institutions in India, across key focus areas such as Environment and Climate Action, Civic Literacy and Public Safety, Community Engagement, Innovation and Green Economy, and Culture and Local Tourism.

We also maintain a vibrant presence through our quarterly College Magazine and active social media platforms on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, which showcase the achievements and activities of our students and faculty.

I express my sincere gratitude to our Director, Dr. Sudhir C. Joseph, for his dynamic and visionary leadership, and for providing constant logistical and administrative support for the growth of the College. Our dedicated faculty, in collaboration with doctors and senior nursing staff from the hospital, work tirelessly as a team to provide the best possible training to our students.

Being an alumnus of this great institution, I consider it both an honour and a responsibility to carry forward its rich legacy. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of nursing education and training. Nursing is not merely a profession but a vocation, and I commend our students for choosing this challenging yet deeply rewarding path in this century-old institution.

With Best Wishes,
